RIWEM team won the first prize of (WaPOR Hackathon)

Summary:

"WaPOR Hackathon" was held for the first time to pursue the application of WaPOR data in the MENA region.

It aims at gathering innovative solutions and ideas for improving water resources management and agricultural productivity. It was held from 17th November to 8th December by IHE Delft Institute, Wageningen University, MetaMeta group and with the supports of the ministry of foreign affairs of the Netherlands, and FAO.
This Hackathon had 4 main themes as follow:
1. communication to smallholders
2. big data for water management
3. remote sensing for environmental issues
4. monitoring the SDGs
About 200 people from different countries in 20 teams competed during the three weeks. In the first run, 14 teams were selected and in the second round, 5 teams went to the next stage. In the final stage of the contest, judges selected the RIWEM team as the winner because of the novelty of the idea and its applicability for policy making. RIWEM team will get further support to develop their idea.
