Abstract

Cervical cancer is a common cancer in women around the world. Human papillomavirus infection is main cause of this cancer. Currently treatment methods include chemotherapy, radiation therapy and surgery. These methods usually cause severe reactions and drug resistance in the patients, so nding a safe natural drug for treatment can be very helpful. Curcumin is a compound derived from the root of the Curcuma longa plant and is the active ingredient in a food spice. Various studies have con rmed the anticancer, chemoprotective and genes and proteins regulatory effects of this component. Insolubility, low cellular uptake and low bioavailability are common limitations of curcumin use. To overcome these limitations, a nano-formulation of curcumin

Abstract

BackgroundStem cell therapy is among the novel approaches for the treatment of post-myocardial infarction cardiomyopathy. This study aims to compare the effect of stromal-derived factor 1 α (SDF1α), mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) in combination with the lentiviral production of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) on infarct area, vascularization and eventually cardiac function in a rat model of myocardial infarction (MI).MethodsThe influence of SDf1α on MSCs survival was investigated. MSCs were transduced via a lentiviral vector containing VEGF. After that, the effect of mesenchymal stem cell transfection of VEGF-A165 and SDf1α preconditioning on cardiac function and scar size was investigated in five groups of MI rat models. The M

Abstract

Chronic inflammation responses hamper the tissue engineering. immune system has main function in the regeneration and maintenance of all tissue, the immune reaction to an implant begins by the innate immune cells including macrophages which can eventually lead to accept or reject of the implant. to avoid adverse immune reactions, current strategies use of immunomodulatory biomaterials rather than inert materials. The present study aimed to introduce as biomaterial is capable of modulating macrophage responses. Macrophages cultured on top of four surfaces then analysis morphological characteristics, cellular outgrowth and function. In addition, measured the key cytokine/chemokine markers of macrophage polarization in each sample. The results

Abstract

The story of human dreams about curing all diseases, disorders and lesions is as old as human history. In the frontier of medical science, nanomedicine is trying to solve the problem. In this study, inspired by nanotechnology and using “grafting from” approach, a novel lignin-based nanogel was synthesized using atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) method. N-isopropylacrylamide (NIPAM) and N, N-dimethylaminoethylmethacrylate (DMAEMA) comonomers were graft copolymerized from fully brominated lignin as ATRP macroinitiator to synthesize lignin-gP (NIPAM-co-DMAEMA) nanogel (LNDNG). By controlling the initial comonomer compositions and ATRP conditions, four LNDNG systems with different lower critical solution temperatures (LCSTs) of 32

Abstract

Nanogels are crosslinked polymer-based hydrogel nanoparticles considered to be next-generation drug delivery systems due to their superior properties, including high drug loading capacity, low toxicity, and stimuli responsiveness. In this study, dually thermo-pH-responsive plasmonic nanogel (Ng) was synthesized by grafting poly (N-isopropyl acrylamide) (PNIPAM) to chitosan (CS) in the presence of a chemical crosslinker to serve as a drug carrier system. The nanogel was further incorporated with gold nanoparticles (AuNP) to provide simultaneous drug delivery and photothermal therapy (PTT). Curcumin’s (Cur) low water solubility and low bioavailability are the biggest obstacles to effective use of curcumin for anticancer therapy, and these o

Abstract

Background: Gene expression regulators and mutations are a kind of biomarker and new therapeutic target for human diseases like cancer. LncRNAs are involved in Several regulatory processes. RNA components of mitochondrial RNA processing endoribonuclease is a lncRNA that its regulatory position has been identified in some cancers. Regarding the importance of the RMRP gene, we are investigating changes in the expression of this gene that are caused by promoter region mutations in breast cancer patients. Methods: In this study, LncRNA RMRP gene expression was evaluated on 25 tumor samples and 25 control samples by semi-quantitative RT PCR technique, and confirmed by Real time PCR technique for a number of samples. Also, to detect the mutation

Abstract

Introduction Pressure ulcer (PU) is known as the third most costly disorder usually caused by prolonged pressure and stagnation in various parts of the body. Although several therapeutic approaches are employing, obstacles in appropriate healing for skin lesions still exist which necessitates new practical alternative or adjunctive treatments. Low level laser therapy (LLLT) as one of the mentioned new strategies have gained attention. Besides, curcumin is an herbal medicine extracted from turmeric with anti-inflammatory and antioxidative properties with promising beneficial therapeutic effects in wound healing. Employing dendrosomal nanoparticles, we overcome the hydrophobicity of curcumin in the present study. We hypothesized that combinat

Abstract

Paracrine signaling between tumor and surrounding stromal cells is critical for the maintenance of tumor microenvironment during ovarian cancer progression. Small extracellular vesicles (sEVs; exosomes in particular) are nano-sized vesicles secreted actively by many cells including tumor cells and are found to have fundamental roles in intercellular communication through shuttling functional RNAs. Although microRNAs (also called miRNAs or miRs), small non-coding RNAs regulating gene expression, are selectively accumulated in tumor sEVs and can mediate intercellular communication, the exact biological mechanisms underlying the functions of exosomal miRNAs in ovarian tumor angiogenesis remain unclear. In this study, sEVs were isolated from co

Abstract

AimTo determine the anti-metastatic potential of combinations of two bioactive carotenoids of saffron, crocin and crocetin, on 4T1 breast cancer and on a mice model of TNBC, and assess the effect of the most potent combination on the Wnt/β-catenin pathway.Main methodsThe effects of the carotenoid combinations on the viability of 4T1 cells were determined by MTT assay. The effects of the nontoxic doses on migration, mobility, invasion and adhesion to ECM were examined by scratch assay, Transwell/Matrigel-coated Transwell chamber and adhesion assay respectively. Tumors were inoculated by injecting mice with 4T1 cells. The weights and survival rates of the mice and tumor sizes were monitored. Histological analysis of the tissues was conducted

Journal PapersPolymers for Advanced Technologies , Volume 31 , Issue 1, 2020 January , {Pages 160-177 }

Abstract

Curcumin as a safe traditional compound has various benefits such as anticancer activities. However, low solubility in water is a problem. Herein, curcumin encapsulated in polymersome nanoparticles (CPNs) have been developed, the physicochemical properties have been evaluated, and cytotoxicity effects on HT29 cells were evaluated by MTT assay and annexin V/PI staining. The expression of stemness markers including CD44, CD133, and CD24, as well as miRNAs (miR‐126, miR‐34a, miR‐21, miR‐155, miR‐221, and miR‐222) and some potential targets, was evaluated in CPNs‐treated and untreated cells. Physicochemical analysis confirmed the encapsulation of curcumin in polymersomes and showed a spherical shape, an appropriate mean size of 25

Abstract

Background:In recent years, nanotechnology with modern advances in the macromolecular design of nano-carriers has proved to be helpful in the development of drugs delivery systems. This research represents a novel co-administration of nano-vehicles, known as liposomes. Liposomes efficiently encapsulate curcumin and BR in a polymer structure, which results in enhanced aqueous solubility of the mentioned hydrophobic agents and higher bioavailability of the drugs. Methods:Preparation of curcumin and BR liposomes were carried out by the thin film method, and the amounts of purified drug and its release were analyzed. After dose determination, the human lung cancer cells (QU-DB) were exposed to BR and curcumin liposomes for 12, 24, and 48 h. Then
