Exercise, selenium, and cancer cells

Journal Papers , 2021 January 1, {Pages 475-482 }

Abstract

Selenium is an essential micronutrient with antioxidant activities in different cells. Although many studies have suggested that selenium has protective effects in tumor development, the results of some studies are somewhat controversial and have shown that selenium supplementation becomes a prooxidant and shows toxicity effects in cancer. Also, physical exercise can act as a coadjuvant in cancer therapies, in addition to its positive effects on the physical and psychological complications of cancer and related therapies; it can affect cancer cells and the tumor microenvironment. Physical exercise affects the cancer cells metabolism, prevents cancer cachexia, and induces metabolic adjustment in different tissues in cancer. The metabolic eff

Abstract

Military forces based on their mission have to deployment and executed military operation in extreme environmental conditions, they simultaneously experience nutritional and sleep disorders and endure mental stress. This condition plays essential role in body hemostasis, military fitness components and finally commanded mission's success. Neglecting above mentioned condition physiological responses, as long as providing nutritional, training, and motivational needs could be health compromising, reduce productivity and finally led to operations failure. Various insight presented regards fronting these stressful environment induced disorders; it seems, investigating physiological responses to military environment stress, based on its specific

Effects of curcumin on antioxidant capacity and gastric mucosal injury following strenuous endurance training in rats

Journal PapersComparative Exercise Physiology , 2020 January , {Pages 08-Jan }

Abstract

Strenuous endurance training (SET) in endurance athletes can cause gastrointestinal problems, such as gastritis. Gastritis is associated with increased oxidative stress and an imbalance between free-radical production and antioxidant defences. The present study investigated the effects of SET and curcumin injection on systemic total antioxidant capacity (TAC), gastric mucosal injury and lipid peroxidation (malondialdehyde – MDA) in male rats. Twenty-six male Wistar rats were randomly divided into four groups including Control, Curcumin, Endurance, and Endurance + curcumin. Incremental endurance training (up to 70 min with 35 m/min), and curcumin injection (30 mg/kg bodyweight, three times per week) was carried out in relevant groups. The

Abstract

High intensity interval training and blood flow restriction make huge physiological changes in athletes. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of 4 weeks of high intensity interval training and blood flow restriction on cardiovascular fitness and inflammatory cytokines of interleukin-6 and interleukin-17 in active male students. 18 active students in Tehran city (age range 20-30 years) were divided into three groups: 1- training and blood flow restriction, 2- training and 3-blood flow restriction by convenience sampling method. The subjects performed high intensity interval training and blood flow restriction for 4 weeks and 3 sessions per week. Fasting blood samples were collected before and after the test. Based on the resul

Exercise Training, Immune System, and Coronavirus

Journal Papers , Volume 12 , Issue 46, 2020 January 1, {Pages 17-40 }

Abstract

The novel coronavirus severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV2) which caused COVID-19, is a pandemic that threatens human societies in many ways. It seems that the main strategy of managing coronavirus at present is to prevent infection. In addition to improving physical fitness, moderate-intensity exercise boosts the cellmediated and humoral immune system responses, especially in people with weakened immune systems who are at risk of coronavirus implications such as the elderly, obese people and those with chronic diseases. Therefore, performing regular exercise during life span can be considered as an effective strategy to prevent viral diseases such as COVID-19. On the other hand, home quarantine and non-use of public s

Abstract

Individuals ability are different for achieving to success in sports disciplines and most of this differences are related to genetic factors. Finding genetic structures that effect on athletic performance is an important step in developing methods related to talent identification. Judo athletes for being successes in this discipline need to high levels of strength and power. The previous investigations revealed the insulin-like growth factor (IGF2) is associated with body mass index, fat-free mass, hand grip strength and leg strength. Aim: The aim of the present study was to evaluate the possible association between ApaI IGF2 and judo status. The athlete group includes 40 elite judo athletes who had medals in Asian and World championship an
