Abstract

Both natural and synthetic fibers do not perform well at low frequencies and are also subjected to erosion, moisture, fire, etc., when used as an interior finish of room walls. To overcome these problems, micro-perforated plate with different thickness is used in a multilayer sound absorber configuration to improve its sound absorption. Firstly, the acoustic properties of five natural wastes including sheep wool, goat wool, camel wool as well as pith and fiber bundles of sugarcane bagasse were determined by using an impedance tube following ISO 10534–2. Secondly, the effect of Panel thickness was investigated. The maximum sound absorption coefficient (SAC) of natural waste materials is at middle to high-frequency range and this shifted to

Abstract

Sulfur dioxide, a noxious air pollutant, can cause health and environmental effects, and its emissions should be controlled. Nonthermal plasma is one of the most effective technologies in this area. This study evaluated the efficiency of a packed-bed plasma reactor (PBR) and in-plasma catalysis (IPC) in SO 2 removal process which were finally optimized and modeled by the use of the central composite design (CCD) approach. In this study, SO 2 was diluted in zero air, and the NiCeMgAl catalyst was selected as the catalyst part of the IPC. The effect of three main factors and their interaction were studied. ANOVA results revealed that the best models for SO 2 removal efficiency and energy yielding were the reduced cubic models. According to th

Abstract

Ag-doped S-MgO powder was synthesized by doping of S-MgO with Ag and its photocatalytic activity was investigated under UVA-LED light irradiation for diclofenac (DCF) degradation. The S-MgO doped with 1 mol% of Ag showed the highest photocatalytic activity under UVA irradiation. The Ag-doped S-MgO was nanosphere with a band gap of 2.20 eV and the surface defects. Introducing Ag in the lattice of S-MgO accelerated the charge transfer and thus its photocatalytic activity. Complete degradation of 50 mg/L DCF was achieved via non-radical singlet oxygen mechanism within 15 min in the UVA/LED photocatalytic process with Ag-doped S-MgO in natural pH. In addition, 86% of DCF was mineralized within 60 min in the process. Reusability of the

Abstract

Biotrickling filters (BTFs) applied to hydrophobic volatile organic compounds (VOCs) suffer from limited mass transfer. Phase transfer kinetic and equilibrium effects limit the biodegradation of hydrophobic VOCs especially at high concentrations. This study evaluates two strategies for overcoming the problem. First, a natural process was used to enhance the aqueous availability of styrene, a hydrophobic VOC model, by inoculating the BTF with a mixture of biosurfactant–generating bacteria. This method achieved a maximum elimination capacity (ECmax) of 139?g?m-3h−1 in the BTF at an empty bed residence time (EBRT) of 60s. The highest concentrations of the biosurfactants surfactin and rhamnolipid were 205 and 86?mg L-1, respectively, in thi

Abstract

The non-thermal plasma (NTP) is a superior proposed method for nitric oxide removal because of operation at atmospheric pressure and ambient temperature. The energy consumption is the main challenge of using this technology. The packed plasma reactor with dielectric materials has been extensively investigated; it has higher energy efficiency. In this study, the energy efficiency and the other effectiveness factors in nitric oxide removal by NTP reactor packed with ceramic and glass beads optimized and modeled using Response Surface Methodology. The findings showed the maximum energy efficiency was 132.69g/J in the optimal conditions of initial concentration, gas flowrate, and duty cycle (voltage) equal to 1050 ppm, 2.5 L/min, and 9%(22KV),

Journal PapersArchives of Acoustics , Volume 45 , Issue 3, 2020 July 9, {Pages 487–497 }

Abstract

Due to its unique features, the metal foam is considered as one of the newest acoustic absorbents. It is a navel approach determining the structural properties of sound absorbent to predict its acoustical behavior. Unfortunately, direct measurements of these parameters are often difficult. Currently, there have been acoustic models showing the relationship between absorbent morphology and sound absorption coefficient (SAC). By optimizing the effective parameters on the SAC, the maximum SAC at each frequency can be obtained. In this study, using the Benchmarking method, the model presented by Lu was validated in MATLAB coding software. Then, the local search algorithm (LSA) method was used to optimize the metal foam morphology parameters. Th
